Target, je t’aime!

Target finally decided to grace Canada with its presence and I have been anxiously awaiting its arrival since the company announced its expansion into the Canadian market in 2011.

The location nearest me opened its doors on July 16. I, along with 4 of my girlfriends, gave it a warm welcome by spending 2 and half hours perusing (i.e. pillaging) every department!

Was there some damage done? Hell, yeah!

I was so pumped, as soon we started walking through the store, I kept exclaiming, “I’m so happy!” over and over.

So would you like to look at the goodies I picked up? I thought so!

Three summer dresses, a fedora (to protect my dye job from the sun) and a stripey beach bag

Two bedside lamps for my guest bedroom (I am thinking of stencilling a pattern on the shades with black paint to spruce them up a bit)

Drink dispenser for entertaining

Decorative mirror – I think its home above the bar cart is perfect!

I now must force myself to stay away so I don’t do any further damage to my bank account!

Natural Beauty Is Always In!

The most beautiful makeup of a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy. – Yves Saint-Laurent

I had the privilege of doing two of my good friends makeup this past week – just for fun! They both know how much I’m into makeup so we hung out on my deck, snacked on chocolate-covered strawberries, and played with different looks.  Both ladies have so much natural beauty – my job was really easy!

Challis and Meghan are sisters. Although they have similar features, they are each beautiful for their own unique reasons and I did different looks on each of them. This is probably the most stated makeup tip, but I believe in focusing on your best features and using makeup to enhance them.

Meghan has perfect, radiant porcelain skin and naturally flushed cheeks. Because she has such beautiful skin, I wanted it to shine through. I applied a sheer wash of foundation to her face and enhanced her cheeks with a peony pink blush and a pearl coloured highlighter. I kept her eyes simple, but classic – neutral eyeshadows with black winged out eyeliner. I then did a peachy pink lip on her. I love this look because it’s polished but still natural enough to be worn everyday.

Challis has beautiful, big blue eyes and I wanted them to POP!! For you blue-eyed babes, the best way to do that is to use peach, gold, and brown shadows. I used a combination of peach and gold shadows on Challis’ entire eyelid. I wanted it to be dramatic though so I smoked out the outer corner of her lid with a navy shadow, smudged black kohl across her upper lash line, and lined her bottom lash line with the navy shadow. I accented the look with baby pink cheeks and lips. This is a great evening look – date night or going out with your girlfriends!

I did their makeup out on the deck because natural light is always the best light for applying makeup. I recommend always doing your makeup in front of a window.

Now, who’s next?

As always, thanks for reading! I really do appreciate the likes, comments, and follows! Also, thank you Challis and Meghan for letting me feature your lovely faces on here!

Weekend Project: Jewelry Organization

I tackled a fun project this weekend: reorganizing my jewelry collection!

I had been on the look out for quite some time for fun ways to organize/display my jewelry. I trolled the internet for cute jewelry trees, boxes, or trays, but nothing really captivated me.

While searching, I stumbled upon this closet and thought this system was fantastic:

But I couldn’t find a tiered jewelry tray that was nearly as cute as that Tiffany Blue one!

Then a few months ago, I spotted these framed corkboards at Homesense and thought they would be perfect for hanging my necklaces. I hung them up in my Makeup Room (yes I got a whole room to myself for my clothes, makeup, jewelry, and shoes – that’s the beauty of having no children…yet!).

I previously purchased this egg tray from Anthropologie to hold my earrings (I stole the idea from some other blogs):

So I decided to try and find other cute trays to hold the rest of my earrings and bracelets. I was thinking glass dishes or vintage-looking china bowls.  Yesterday, I popped into Value Village and another second hand store to see what I could find. It was my lucky day because all of these glass dishes came home with me for under $20:

This is how it all came together:

Aside from being aesthetically pleasing, the display is quite practical too because it allows me to see all the pieces in my collection easily which makes it more likely that I will wear each piece more often!

Emerald City

elie saab

The official colour of 2013 is Emerald according to the Pantone Color Institute. This explains why when I glanced in my closet the other day, I saw two new Emerald pieces in there!

I purchased these items oblivious to the trend and it made me realize how influenced we are by the fashion industry – sometimes without even realizing it. It reminds me of that scene in The Devil Wears Prada when Meryl Streep’s character gives the “cerulean speech” to Anne Hathaway’s character (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, go check it out and them come back and keep reading!)

Another way to rock this rad colour is to accessorize with it:

Jolie necklace from stella & dot

Gold Coast Maryanne handbag by kate spade

I personally have my eyes on these babies:

Nine West pumps with a cut out detail

Hopefully, they still have them in my size when Lent is over (I foolishly gave up online shopping)!

If you are thinking about incorporating some Emerald into your makeup routine, here’s what Sephora says:

Its distinct hue, falling exactly between true blue and true green on the color spectrum makes Emerald a universally flattering tone that activates and enhances every eye colour.

If green eyeshadow is a little too bold for you, go subtle with some Emerald mascara – Almay, Covergirl, and Avon all make a version or, if you have some cash to splash, try YSL’s Volume Effet Faux Cils in “Green Emerald” ($30 USD).

And, quite possibly my favourite way rock Emerald this season is to pair it with a hit of leopard print. How cute and sophisticated is this ensemble?!

Pantone also named the following colours in its Spring 2013 Fashion Report:
